Forget about everything else you’ve read about Mr. Olympia spending several hours in the gym seven days a week pumping with advanced exercises and superset's.

Here are some simple and basic truths that shed light on some of the biggest myths on gaining weight and building muscle.

 

Myth #1: You must workout 5 to 7 days a week several hours a day for maximum results

 

When I first started working out, I always logically figured the more work you put in, the more results you get in return. I trained for hours a day, sometimes six or seven days a week thinking that the more I workout, the better results I will get and the faster I would get them.

I did a bunch of different exercises for several repetitions and sets. After years of doing this, I just came to the conclusion that I just couldn’t gain weight.

That was until I learned that when it comes to workouts for hardgainrs, less is more. The reason I wasn’t gaining any weight or building any muscle was because I was overtraining.

In order to learn how to gain weight fast, you must keep your workouts short and intense using the proper exercises meant specifically to gain weight while allowing ample time to recover. If you overwork it, you will risk overtraining and even lose weight in the process!

 

Myth #2: You don't have to lift heavy weights to gain weight and build muscle

 

Along with working out too much, I never use to apply the rule of progressive overload.

This is perhaps the most basic rule of weightlifting.

If you're a hardgainer, and you think that you can gain weight fast and build muscle by pumping out dozens of sets and reps with the same weight day in and day out, you're only fooling yourself.

To build muscle properly, you must progressively overload your body with more weight then it is normally accustomed to. Then, after your muscle tissue tears down and rebuild themselves stronger, you must do it again, with more weight - or you simply will not grow.

Generally speaking, if you’re looking to build more muscle endurance, you progressively add more repetitions to your workouts.

However, if you want to learn how to gain muscle weight fast , you must progressively add weight to the barbell. The fasted way to build muscle is to build strength first. In other words, if you want to get bigger you have to get stronger.

As soon as your body becomes accustomed to a certain weight, it will no longer grow. You must constantly overload it with more weight then it is used to handling.

In the past, since I was overtraining, I wasn’t able to get much stronger, which in turn was one of the reasons I wasn’t gaining any weight.

Sure, I was getting a little stronger, but I still wasn’t lifting nearly enough weight to actually stimulate some serious muscle growth.

 

Myth #3: You won't build any REAL quality muscle mass without expensive supplements

 

For a lack of a better way of putting it, this is just a bunch of BS.

Let me clear up all of the confusion about supplements right now: no supplement will ever substitute hard work on a proper hardgainer workout routine, a solid diet, plenty of rest, and the right attitude.

Supplements are meant to supplement, not substitute.

When learning how to gain weight fast and build muscle, supplements should be the last thing you add to your program, if you add them at all. Supplements alone are completely worthless. They can add to the value of your progress only after you first apply a proper workout and diet.

Because their targets are people who want to gain weight but don’t want to work hard for it.

Don’t become one of these targets. Separate yourself from the wannabe’s and become what few people are willing to work for. Make a decision to yourself right now that you will not look for an easy route to get what you want. Use your common sense and you will remember that anything worth a great reward requires great sacrifice. But the reward is always worth the work, always.

Supplements won’t substitute any hard work for you but if you use then intelligently and know which ones really work and which ones don’t, they can help your progress tremendously. But don't forget, they are ALWAYS secondary to a proper hardgainer workout routine and diet.
